McAlvey & Associates was founded in 1997 by Jeff McAlvey as a full-service governmental consulting firm. Rusty Merchant joined the firm in 2003 and became a partner in 2007. This is when the firm’s name was officially changed to McAlvey Merchant & Associates.

Since joining forces, Jeff and Rusty have built a team of expert professionals who are committed to winning for their clients. McAlvey Merchant & Associates represents a diverse range of clients – organizations, institutions and companies of all sizes – across industries including environment and energy, education, healthcare, insurance, charitable organizations, city governments and more. We specialize in custom governmental and political strategy development that assists organizations in solving problems, facing challenges and achieving their goals.

Since our inception, we have helped our clients secure millions of dollars in state budget appropriations and grants. We have helped our clients protect Michigan’s air, land and Great Lakes for future generations to enjoy. We have passed legislation, secured key appropriations and state grants, and beat back attempts to use the Legislative process to cause harm to Michigan job providers, consumers and property owners.
